For turtles, head to Playa Piskado in the west; for a wreck, Tugboat Beach at Caracas Bay; and for the best day out, Klein Curaçao. The Blue Room near Santa Cruz is the most special, but you get there by boat or by swimming. To snorkel on a beach day, choose Cas Abao, Playa Lagun or Kokomo Beach.
At almost all these spots you walk into the water from shore, so with a rental car and your own snorkel set you do not need a tour. Checked on September 27, 2026.

Playa Piskado: snorkeling with turtles
Playa Piskado, also called Playa Grandi, is a fishing bay near Westpunt. The turtles come for the scraps the fishermen leave, so you often see them just a few meters from shore. The beach itself is basic and busy in the afternoon.
Keep your distance, do not touch the animals and do not feed them. Go early in the morning for calm and clear water, and do not snorkel right next to the fishing boats. More in seeing sea turtles in Curaçao.

Tugboat Beach: a wreck for beginners
At Tugboat Beach on Caracas Bay, a sunken tugboat lies at about 16 feet (5 m), covered in coral and full of reef fish. You swim right to it from shore, so it is a good first snorkel spot, also for older kids. More in Tugboat Beach.
Prefer a boat that visits several spots? The Tugboat Snorkel Tour (€ 89 per person) sails on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 10 am from The Village Marina, 4.5 hours with lunch, an open bar and snorkel gear.
Klein Curaçao: the clearest water
Klein Curaçao is an uninhabited island about 1.5 hours away by boat, with a white beach, a lighthouse and a shipwreck. The water is often the clearest of all and you regularly see turtles. You go on an organized day trip; snorkel gear, food and drinks are usually included.
The boats differ in travel time, shade and vibe, from € 125 per person. See all options on Klein Curaçao and compare them in Klein Curaçao trips compared.
Blue Room: the blue cave
Blue Room is a small sea cave near Santa Cruz where sunlight enters underwater and turns everything bright blue. You dive about 3 feet (1 m) underwater through the entrance. The light is best around noon. It is not safe there when there are waves.
You get there by boat, kayak or by swimming. The Snorkel Trip with the Powerboat (€ 165 per person) stops on Tuesday at the Blue Room, Playa Piskado and Kokomo Beach. The Blue Room Snorkel Tour (€ 134 per person) runs Monday to Friday, with pickup where you stay.
Cas Abao and Playa Lagun: snorkeling with a beach day
Cas Abao is a wide white beach with loungers, showers and a restaurant, and it charges an entrance fee. Snorkel along the rocks on the sides: you see far more fish there than over the sand in the middle. Torn between this bay and Grote Knip? Read Grote Knip or Cas Abao.
Playa Lagun is a narrow bay between high rock walls, quiet and sheltered. Here too, the life is along the rocky edges. Both fit well into a day along the west coast; see the most beautiful beaches of Westpunt and Westpunt in one day.
Kokomo Beach and Playa Kalki
Kokomo Beach is close to Willemstad and is a beach club with loungers, food and drinks. The snorkeling is not the most spectacular, but along the rocky sides you see plenty, and you do not have to drive far.
Playa Kalki is at the far west, near Westpunt, and is popular with divers. The water is often very clear and the reef starts close to shore. You enter the water via steps or over stones, so water shoes are handy.

Snorkeling safely and what to bring
- Sea: the west coast is usually calm, the north coast is not: never snorkel there. Do not go in when there is current or high waves.
- Timing: in the morning the water is often clearest and the parking lots are quieter.
- Gear: a well-fitting mask, water shoes, reef-safe sunscreen and a shirt to protect your back from the sun.
- Coral: do not stand on it or touch it; it is fragile and some kinds sting.
- Car: leave nothing visible in the car. Also see rental car or excursions and what to pack for Curaçao.
