How hard is the climb?
The distance is short, but the heat, the loose surface and the scramble make it tough. The first part is an ordinary hike. The last stretch is different: you scramble over boulders and need your hands. If you are afraid of heights, it will feel exciting.
With reasonable fitness you will be fine. If you have bad knees, a fear of heights or trouble with heat, skip the summit and choose a shorter trail in the park. Turning back halfway still means the whole descent. More active ideas in Curaçao for adventurers.
Start time and rules
- The park opens at 6 am; the climb must start before 10 am. Starting as early as possible is cooler and gives the best light.
- The ticket desk closes at 1:30 pm; the park advises against hiking after 11 am.
- Stay on the marked trails, take your trash with you and leave plants and animals alone.
- Dogs are not allowed in the park.
- A guided climb can be arranged on request through the park. All opening hours and fees are in Christoffel Park and Shete Boka.
What to bring
- Water: 2 liters per person, even if that sounds like a lot.
- Shoes: hiking or sports shoes with grip. Flip-flops and sandals are unsafe on this route.
- Sun: cap, sunscreen and sunglasses.
- Hands: thin gloves are handy on the rough rock.
- Bag: a small backpack, so your hands are free.
- The full packing list is in what to pack for Curaçao.
Prefer not to climb: Hòfi Mango
Want nature without the scramble? On the Hofi Mango Tour (€ 20 per adult) you walk for about an hour with a guide through a historic estate with more than 800 mango trees and an old sugar mill.
The tour runs on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 8:30 or 10:00 am, in the same western part of the island.
Climbing Mount Christoffel with kids
For older kids and teens who are used to hiking, the climb is a real adventure. For young children it is too hard, especially the last rocky stretch.
A good alternative is one of the shorter trails or a driving route through the park, with a stop at the Savonet Museum. Kids aged 6 to 12 pay € 2 entry. More tips in Curaçao with children.

With a guide or without a car
From Willemstad it is about a 45-minute to one-hour drive via Barber to the park. Without a car you can take a tour: the Offroad Jeep Safari West Coast (€ 107 per person) stops at the Savonet Museum in Christoffel Park but does not climb the mountain.
On the Private Jeep Tour (€ 111 per person) you ride for about 5 hours with your own guide through the west and tailor the route to your wishes. The best season is in the best time to visit Curaçao, options without a car in Curaçao without a rental car.
