Largely, yes. Distances are short, you can drive close to most places, healthcare is good and English is widely spoken. The hard parts are the heat, the uneven sidewalks in Willemstad and the stairs or rocks at some bays and boats.
With an automatic rental car, a few beaches with facilities and tours where you mostly sit, you will have a relaxed vacation. Below you can read what works well and what to ask in advance. Checked on September 27, 2026.
Accessibility at a glance
| Place or activity | Accessibility | What to watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Beach with facilities | Good: parking nearby, loungers and restrooms | The walk through soft sand to your lounger |
| Small natural bay | Varies: sometimes stairs or rocks | Take a look from the top first |
| Willemstad | Fair: compact, but uneven sidewalks | A short route and breaks at a café |
| Guided island drive | Good: you sit most of the time | How high the step into the vehicle is |
| Boat trip | Depends on the dock and the boat | Gangway, steps and handrails |

Getting around: rental car, taxi or tour
A rental car with automatic transmission and air conditioning is the most comfortable option for most people. You park close to your destination and set your own pace. Manual cars are still common on the island, so explicitly ask for an automatic when booking and pay attention to how high you have to step in: an SUV is sometimes easier than a small, low car.
If you’d rather not drive yourself, use taxis for short trips and arrange the return trip in advance. Outside the tourist areas you won’t easily find a taxi. All the options are in Curaçao without a rental car.

City and water in one ride: the Amphibious Bus
A comfortable choice is the Amphibious Bus Tour Curaçao (€ 70 per person). You ride for about 2 hours through Willemstad and Pietermaai, after which the bus drives into Spanish Water and carries on as a boat. You stay in the same seat the whole time. The tour runs Thursday to Sunday at 10:00 am and 1:30 pm from the Waaigat parking lot in Punda.
You board via a few steps. The operator states that the tour is not suitable for serious mobility issues. If you can manage a few steps, it is a comfortable way to see a lot.
A private drive at your own pace
Very flexible is the Private Jeep Tour (€ 111 per person). You ride for about 5 hours with your own guide and only your own group. The route can be adjusted, so you can ask for mainly viewpoints and short stops and skip long walks. Ask in advance how high the step into the jeep is.

Beaches that work well
| Beach | Access | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Mambo Beach | Boardwalk and parking garage nearby | Many restaurants, loungers and restrooms |
| Jan Thiel | Parking nearby, beach clubs | Calm water, lots of facilities |
| Cas Abao | Parking right by the sand | Fine sand, loungers for rent, entry fee per car |
| Playa Kalki | Steep stairs down to the beach | Beautiful, but hard with a cane or walker |

Ask the beach bar to place your lounger close to the path, so you walk less through soft sand. Water shoes help getting in. More bays are in the most beautiful beaches of Curaçao.
Underwater without swimming
With Helmet Diving Curaçao (€ 120 per person) you walk a few meters underwater along the bottom wearing a helmet full of air; your head and hair stay dry. You do not need to swim, but you do need to be able to walk and stand. It takes about 45 minutes, Tuesday to Saturday at 10 am, 12 pm or 2 pm at Marie Pampoen.
You cannot take part with serious health problems; if in doubt, check with the operator and your doctor first. Staying dry is also possible in the Semi SubMarine Curacao (€ 35 per person), but you go down 10 steps into the hull.
Boat trips: what is doable?
On a boat you mostly sit, but boarding is the bottleneck: a gangway, a step over the side or a dock without a handrail. Larger catamarans at a fixed dock are usually easiest. The Sunset cruise by catamaran (€ 70 per person) leaves from a dock at Mood Beach and takes about 2.5 hours, shorter and less tiring than a full-day trip.
Sit at the back: the boat moves less there than at the front. The differences between trips are in the best boat trips in Curaçao.
Willemstad and nature without long walks
Keep Willemstad short: walk along the Handelskade and across the floating bridge, or take the free ferry when the bridge is open. Go early, before the heat. An easy route to shorten is in Willemstad in one day.
You can also see nature from the car. Christoffelpark has driving routes with viewpoints, at Shete Boka you see the waves close to the parking lot, and at the Jan Kok salt pans flamingos often stand right by the road. More in Christoffel Park and Shete Boka and Spotting flamingos in Curaçao.
Heat, medication and healthcare
- Plan activities in the morning and late afternoon; keep midday free for shade or air conditioning.
- Drink more than at home and always carry water, even on short drives.
- Pack medication in your carry-on, with a list of the active ingredients. Do not leave it in a hot car.
- Willemstad has a modern hospital and there are pharmacies across the island. The emergency number for an ambulance is 912; more in internet, SIM card and eSIM in Curaçao.
- Check that your travel or health insurance covers medical costs in Curaçao; US Medicare generally does not cover care abroad. More practical tips in is Curaçao safe.
What to ask in advance
- For an excursion: how do you get in and out, how much walking is there and is there shade?
- For a boat: is there a fixed dock and does the crew help with boarding?
- For your stay: are there steps or an elevator, is the shower step-free and how far is the parking?
- For mobility aids: mention a cane, walker or wheelchair when booking, so the operator knows where it can go.
- For planning: one activity a day is enough. Read how many days you need in Curaçao and the best time to visit for the cooler months.
